Set the SCVAL basketball scoring
record for a single season at 129 points in just an 8
game season. Captain of the basketball team. Scored the
winning touchdown in the Wildcats first ever SCVAL football
crown. One of the few athletes to have lettered in 5
sports. At San Jose State, lettered in football, basketball,
baseball, and soccer. Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Coached football, basketball, baseball and track at Los
Gatos High School Was the commissioner of the SCVAL and
WVAL.

Was All-League, Team Captain
or Most Valuable Player on 5 consecutive teams at Los
Gatos High School: 1943 Track, 1943 Football, 1943-44
Basketball, 1944 Baseball, 1944 Track. At San Jose
State played 4 years of varsity baseball, 4 years of
varsity football, 3 years of varsity basketball and was
on the boxing team his sophomore year Was All League
catcher and captain of the baseball team at SJS his senior
season. Coached Football and Baseball at LGHS for many
years. |

Basketball team MVP,
first team all-league. 2nd in league in scoring. All-league,
team captain and MVP in water polo Placed 2nd in league
in high jump. Attended UC Berkeley on basketball scholarship.
Team MVP, 2nd team All Pac 8 and Dell All American
honorable mention his senior season at Cal. Was drafted
by the San Francisco Warriors in 1964 NBA draft. |

ED HOWELL 1963
FOOTBALL, WRESTLING
Won
the league wrestling title at 191 pounds both his junior
and senior wrestling seasons. Was the Northern California
champion his senior season wrestling. All league tackle
in football both his junior and senior seasons. He was
the first Los Gatos player to play in the North-South
Shrine All Star game. Attended University of Colorado
on a football scholarship. Switched to wrestling after
his freshman year at Colorado and won Big 8 titles
at 191 pounds in 1966 and 1967. Finished 2nd in
the 1964 Olympic trials. |

COUCHEE 1976
FOOTBALL, BASEBALL
Was All League, League Most
Valuable Back, All CCS and All State in football his
senior year. Was quarterback of an undefeated varsity
team and threw for 28 touchdowns. Was All League for
three years as a LGHS varsity baseball pitcher Was
10-1 as a freshman pitcher at San Diego State. Pitched
at USC for 2 seasons in which he was team MVP,
team captain and was honorable mention All American.
Was drafted out of high school by the SF Giants, during
college by Minnesota Twins and after college by the San
Diego Padres. Was Texas League Relief pitcher of the
year, Padres Minor league pitcher of the year and pitched
for the major league Padres for 3 seasons

BILL STEINER 1979
WATER POLO, SWIMMING
Varsity swim team at LGHS for 4
seasons. Was a two-year starter for the varsity water
polo team. Was MVP of his water polo team for 4 seasons – 2
Frosh/Soph and 2 Varsity. Was a high school All American
in water polo his senior year. Was a league champion
on a relay team his sophomore year and an individual
champion both his junior and senior years in the
100 backstroke and 200 IM. Was 2nd in CCS and State
in the 50 Free and 3rd in the State in the 100 Free.
Was an All American swimmer in 3 events and held
the school record in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free
and swam a leg on the record 400 relay. His record
in the 50 Free lasted 18 years. |

FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, BASEBALL
Was team captain and All League both offense
and defense in his junior and his senior football seasons.
Was 2nd team All CCS as a junior
and 1st Team All CCS as well as being named Defensive
Back of the Year both in League and CCS. Was team
captain, defensive player of the year and honorable mention
All League in basketball. Was All League and team
Captain his senior season in baseball. Played baseball
at West Valley College where he led the state in
RBIs. Played college baseball at UOP and Santa
Clara, where he was All Conference and drafted by the
SF Giants |

LEZLIE JENSEN 1987
TRACK, BASKETBALL
Held 6 school track and field records
at graduation. Set a school record in the long jump
of 19’2” that
still stands today and is only jumper in LGHS history
to make State Finals 2 years in a row. Set a school record
in the triple jump 37’5” and
finished 10th in the state. Won league titles in the
100, long jump, triple jump, and 400 as well as running
on two league-champion relay teams. Set school record
in 400 with a 56.30, but ran a 55.0 split while anchoring
Los Gatos to a 4x400 CCS Championship in 1987. Was team
MVP 4 years in track. Has the fastest dual meet 100 time
in LGHS history. |

MIKE FISHER 1990
FOOTBALL, BASEBALL
Was All League and All CCS in both
Football and Baseball his senior year Was team captain
and outstanding offensive player in football and
quarterbacked his team to back to back league and
CCS titles in 88 and 89 Was the starting catcher
for three years on the baseball team Played in the
State All Star baseball game his senior year Went
to Arizona State on a baseball scholarship after
LGHS Left Arizona St. to play football and ended
up at Cal Poly SLO, where he held 10 school records
and was voted “Player of the Decade” for
football Mike also played for LG in the Little
League World Series |

SHELBY EDWARDS 1994
VOLLEYBALL, BASKETBALL, SOFTBALL
Selected All-League
both her junior and senior seasons in volleyball.
Was First team All CCS and All Northern California
her senior volleyball seasonWas team captain of
the only State Championship team in any sport at
LGHSWas a member of the first CCS Champion softball
team in LGHS history. In softball was All League
her junior year and league MVP her senior yearIn
basketball was team captain and twice selected
All League. Played 4 seasons of varsity volleyball
at the University of Oregon. Was honorable mention
All Academic Pac 10 three straight yearsIs currently
on the faculty at LGHS and is girl’s
volleyball varsity coach |

JOHN
BAGGERLY 1935
SPECIAL RECOGNITION
John
is being inducted under the category of “Special
Recognition”. The idea of having
this Hall of Fame was John’s and he did so
much for the athletes of Los Gatos High School throughout
his life. An athlete and Los Gatos High School grad
himself, John lettered in Football and Basketball
while a Wildcat. After graduation from LGHS he attended
Harvard, where he played on the golf team. John returned
to the Bay Area after college and began a career
as a sports writer with the Los Gatos Mail News which
became the Los Gatos Times Observer and
eventually the Los Gatos Weekly Times. John
wrote every word in the Los Gatos High School football
program or almost 20 years, he kept the local Little
League fields in top shape while serving on the Board
of Directors of both LGLL and the LG-Saratoga Rec.Department
for decades. The LGLL Major League field is named
in his honor. John passed away in 2002.
