Jim Countryman 1926

The starting guard and team leader on the basketball team that won Los Gatos Highs first basketball league championship An outstanding pitcher and hitter at Los Gatos High and also for the Town baseball teams Running back on the football team Offered a scholarship to play football at the College of the Pacific A “Little All-American” at UOP Recognized as being among the best football players in the country’s smaller colleges.

Named All-League in football both his junior and senior seasons as a lineman Honorable mention All-CCS his junior year First team All-CCS his senior year Honorable mention Wiseman All-American his senior year All Northern California team his senior year Two-time All-Coast Conference at Foothill College LA Times First team All-American Played two years of football at San Jose State Had a tryout with the San Francisco 49ers.


Max Sparrer 1962
FOOTBALL, TRACK

First team All CCS in football both his junior and senior years. Named CCS Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player in League as a senior. Played three years of basketball and three years of baseball and ran track his senior year. Named LGHS Athlete of the Year both his junior and senior years. Three times named Player of the Week by the San Jose Mercury News in football. Named First team All-State in football and played in the California vs. Texas Shrine Game Honorable Mention USA Today All-American. Attended the University of Washington on a football scholarship.

Twice named first team all league and first team all CCS in football on both offensive and defensive lines Teams most valuable lineman as a junior Leagues most valuable lineman as a senior Named to All State team his senior year Led Wildcat football team to undefeated WVAL championship his senior season League wrestling champion both  junior and senior years finishing second in CCS both years Placed third in Northern California Tournament senior wrestling season Received 34 scholarship offers and accepted a full ride to USC to play football


Mike Denevi 1971

In football, he was the varsity quarterback for three seasons. In his junior year he led the football team to an undefeated season. Chosen all league his junior and senior seasons as quarterback and team captain as a senior. Most inspirational player on the basketball team his senior season. Started three seasons of varsity basketball. In baseball, he was the team MVP and chosen All-League his junior and senior seasons. A four year starter on the baseball team at Santa Clara University. A sporting news All American while at SCU. Drafted in the first round by the  Kansas City Royals.

All--league soccer player four times WVALs leading scorer in her Freshman year with 22 goals and again her sophomore year scoring 25 goals WVAL MVP freshman year Named All-CCS junior year NSCAA All American both junior and senior year Scored 77 goals and had 33 assists in her 4 year LGHS soccer career Played varsity soccer at UC Berkeley for 4 seasons Captain of the Mexican National Woman’s Soccer Team that participated in the CONCACAF elimination games in 1994 and 1998 Participated in the 1999 Women’s World Cup.


Jeff Borgese 1986
FOOTBALL, BASEBALL

First team All-CCS on both offense and defense in his senior year of football. Co-MVP of the Team and CO- MVP of the league his senior year in football. Set single game CCS rushing record in his senior year of football. Scored two touchdowns and blocked the winning field goal to help the Wildcats win their first CCS football title his senior year. Three time All -League varsity baseball player at LGHS. Team MVP senior baseball season. First team all CCS his senior year. Selected to California State All Star team his senior year of baseball. Four time All-Conference player in college. Signed by the Philadelphia Phillies and was the #1 prospect in 1991.

Cross Country, Track

CCS Cross Country Champion in 1985, the first LGHS runner to do so Finished second in CCS in the 2-mile his senior year in track when he also placed 7th in the state finals and 7th in 1500 m at Nationals The only distance runner in Los Gatos history to make the state meet in both the mile and two mile and the only runner to ever place in the top 3 in CCS in both events2-Time MVP in Cross Country2-Time MVP in Track Holds School Records in the 2 mile and 1500meters that still exist today Ran on the state champion 4x800 relay team that posted the 4th best time in the nation Holds school record on the Crystal Springs cross country course and the State Meet course in Fresno

SOCCER, TRACK

Four year Varsity starter in soccer Twice named first team All-League and twice named All-CCS in soccer Played on CCS championship soccer team in1994 and CCS runner-up in 1993Four time MVP of the LGHS track team Four time qualifier for the state track meet and did so in 4 events her senior year CCS champion in the 300 hurdles senior year and medaled at state meet junior year Ran on the 4x100 and 4x400 CCS champion relay teams junior year League champion in 300 hurdles three times League champion in triple jump as a freshman Set school record in 100 m hurdles, was 2nd all time in 300 h and 3rd all time in triple jump
