Course Description:

First Semester-During the first quarter all students will complete a core curriculum consisting of medical terminology, communication skills, anatomy and physiology, diet, metrics, patient care, diseases, infection control, nutrition, lab training in CPR, first aid, vital signs and positioning/transferring patients.

Druing the second quarter each student selects a training area from one or more of the following areas:

Central Supply Housekeeping Transportation Activity Program
Surgery Center Physical Therapy Pharmacy Sterile Processing
Respiratory Radiology Laboratory Nursery
Emergency Room Labor and Delivery Pediatrics Veterinary Office

Second Semester-Students continue receiving related classroom instruction (with emphasis on anatomy and physiology) and training in one or more of the areas listed above.

Most of the second semester instructional program includes training experiences in hospitals, community health centers, clinics or convalescent hospitals.

Special Requirements:

Community Classroom/Clinical Prerequisties: A physical examination is required with the documentation of: serum blood levels for Varicella, Rubella, Rubeola and dates of the Hepatitis B vaccine. Also a TB skin test is required within the past two months. A uniform (scrubs) and shoes must be purchased. Students must provide their own transportation to the community/clinical sites.
