Course Description:
Students gain an understanding of general networking concepts. The course prepares the student to understand the relationship of the desktop computer hardware and software to the network. Students prepare to work in the networking field and prepare to test for professional certification, such as CompTia Network+, Linux+, and I-Net+. Opportunities are also available for students to prepare for Microsoft MCSA and MCSE certification, and students have the option to continue their education in networking at the community college or university level.
Students learn DOS, Windows, Unix, and Linux as well as PC hardware and software, network topologies, design, cabling, and PC and network troubleshooting. The Open Standards Interconnect (OCI) model is used extensively. Students also benefit from the work skills curriculum, which involves hands-on activitites. This curriculum is designed to teach students' basic communication, teambuilding and problem solving skills.
Special Requirements: Basic DOS and Windows knowledge desired
