NOTABLE NAMES
Prentiss Brown
Auditorium
Prentiss Brown was principal of LGHS form 1931 to 1956.
He has the distinction of not only being principal for longer
than anyone else (so far) but saw LGHS through its period
of greatest growth.
Douglass Helm Field
Our football field is dedicated to this long-time coach
who came to LGHS in 1923. He became Vice-Principal in 1938
and served until his death in 1953.
Ted Simonson Weight Room
Ted Simonson was principal of LGHS from 1979 until 1998.
He started at LGHS around 1954 as a business teacher, bus
driver and coached wrestling and football. He moved from
teacher to Dean of Boys to Vice Principal in charge of student
Activities to Principal. Because of his love of wrestling
and LGHS sports in general, when Ted retired in 1998, the
weight room was named in his honor.
Fred Canrinus
Although no area is named after Fred, he was a major presence
on campus for many years. Fred came to LGHS in 1938. He
had been an All-American football player while in college
and coached here at LGHS for many years. He was principal
from 1957 to 1970. He led LGHS through major building construction
and remodeling of the 1960s. While he was principal the
student body climbed to it's all time high of over 2200
students. After retiring, Fred moved to Santa Cruz and became
quite an artist.
