Biology is one of the most important and fascinating
of all sciences. Not only does it possess a great degree of profundity in being
the study of life itself; by definition, no other subject carries the same degree
of relevance for the living world. The applications of the field are highly significant
and extremely varied, embodying everything from genetic engineering to environmental
preservation. Furthermore, biology is currently the fastest growing scientific
discipline, expanding its knowledge base by leaps and bounds every day.
In this
class, we will be focusing primarily on molecular biology, but we will also
cover ecology, genetics, bioethics, anatomy, evolution, and a variety of
other more
highly specialized sub-fields. You will greatly expand your own knowledge
of this subject through conducting laboratory experiments (including long-term
projects),
contributing to class discussions, reading and answering questions from your
textbooks, watching science videos, and taking part in interactive lectures
and class activities. Hopefully you will find this class informative, enlightening,
interesting, and enjoyable.
