The Fantastic DBQ Creation Project

Guidelines--

  1. Pick a partner or not

  2. Create the question
    • The question must come from the time period 1775-1825
    • Best questions cover all or most of the period
    • The question must be "arguable from both sides of the issue"
    • The question must be primarily historical in nature
    • Questions should concern themselves with more than one of the following types of history: political, cultural, social, economic
    • Questions may use quotations from historical sources to establish the thesis

  3. Answer the question
    • Start with topical outline; move to sentence outline
    • Develop a list of important "outside information"
    • Organize documents/excerpts of document in support of answer

  4. Accumulate Documents
    • Select excerpt that provides evidence that can be used to answer the question
    • Select contrasting/argumentative documents that must be addressed by a writer on either side of the question
    • Ten documents required; no more no less
    • At least two documents must be from the following list: maps, charts of historical data, political cartoons, works of art, photographs
    • Two documents must have "biased" sources that should be discovered by the competent writer
    • Summarize importance of each document
    • Fit all documents into answer in #3 above

  5. Put into DBQ format/ready for reproduction

  6. Turn in on ____________. DBQ's will not be accepted late...don't miss the deadline...it's a sure 30 points if done conscientiously.
