Peer to Peer Education

The high school years are a time of growth and change. We grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. We will ask questions, meet new challenges, seek answers, make mistakes, and hopefully learn to take full responsibility for our choices. Research shows that a teen’s peer group has a great influence on the way they behave. This is true of both risky and safe behavior. Peer-to-peer education makes use of peer influence in a positive way. Our goal is to provide our peers with the support and information they need to navigate their high school years in the best way possible.

Peer to Peer Education consists of eight programs:

Reality Check - A publication by students, for students, containing anonymous stories on a chosen topic each month. It is sent to students and their families through Parent Square.
Link Crew - Upperclassmen student leaders welcome the Freshmen class during Orientation and continue to meet with Freshmen throughout the year to help with the transition to High School.
PAWS (Providing Awareness for Wildcat Students) - A student run online publication that seeks to comprehensively address student-related concerns at LGHS.
UP (Unconditionally Positive) - UP's mission is to inspire students to create their own journeys, building a high school environment that redefines  success so that students can ultimately live a balanced life.
Cats to Cats Cats to Cats is a student-run organization dedicated to ensuring everyone at Los Gatos High School can get the resources they need to support their emotional wellbeing.
COSA (Coalition of Student Advocates) - A
peer to peer group at LGHS that is dedicated to knowing the abilities, limitations, and general processes of administration and to promote good communication between the student body and the school administration.
Sources of Strength - The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent suicide by increasing help seeking behaviors and promoting connections between peers and caring adults through school-wide messaging campaigns.
Team Belong - A group of students dedicated to creating an atmosphere of inclusion at our campus and celebrating all forms of diversity.

Students who participate in these programs grow as ethical leaders who are positive role models for their peers. In each program, students provide guidance for their peers to better understand high school and contribute to the positive culture of LGHS.
